Essential Dental Visits For Children Aged 6-12 Years
Prevention is easier, and less costly than treatment, this applies to anything in healthcare.
Lots of changes in your childs teeth happens from age 6-12, that’s the time when permanent teeth come in and change your childs dentition from a primary dentition to a mixed dentition.
The changes that will happen is as follows
- At age 6, their permanent molars will start coming out behind the primary teeth in the back
- Upper and lower incisors (front teeth) will start coming out, two on the top and two in the bottom.
Here’s why regular 6-month interval dental checkups are essential!
- To prevent teeth from going into the wrong position
Generally speaking, the permanent teeth are much bigger than the primary teeth they will be replacing, typically there may be some space issues that will need to be addressed if such issues arise.
- To prevent decay
Now that permanent teeth will be coming out, and hopefully for life, careful brushing of those teeth are very important, and during the re-care visits with us, we will inform you whether these teeth came out yet.
- Sealants on the permanent teeth.
Sealants are composite materials that are placed in the grooves of the permanent teeth to prevent any cavitation from happening the hard-to-reach areas of the tooth.
See article: Dental Sealants for children aged 6-18.
- Fluoride application
Fluoride is a substance that is applied on the surfaces of the teeth that has been proven to prevent and strengthen the teeth.
